Time to Renew Your MIEM Membership


It’s time to renew your MIEM membership for 2014-15! As a member, everyone in your district receives discounted registration rates. Renew your membership by September 15 for a chance to win a 1-day registration for a MIEM event.

Michigan School Improvement Facilitators Network (MSIFN) 2014-15


The Michigan School Improvement Facilitators Network (MSIFN) provides a venue for ISD-level facilitators to meet quarterly for the purposes of:

  • Engaging in professional development related to School Improvement
  • Receiving updates from the Michigan Department of Education regarding State Initiatives, Legislative Issues, State Resources for School Improvement
  • Networking and sharing resources to improve the quality of services that are provided to local schools and districts for School Improvement

Facilities and Operations Management – It’s More Than You Think

In the past 16 years, the changes that have occurred in school facilities management have been incredible. Meeting with colleagues, sharing ideas and experiences, learning from experts, seeing the newest products and services available – all this improves our ability to maintain comfortable, safe, healthy buildings so that our community’s most valuable resource – its children - can learn and succeed.

The knowledge required to effectively manage our school facilities is extensive and diverse. You must understand the vast sea of regulations that schools are required to comply with, along with how to effectively lead and manage people - all while working with continually shrinking budgets.

The 16th Annual Facilities/Operations Director Conference & Expo provides in-depth information on all important current school facilities topics. This is a valuable conference for facilities and operations directors as well as superintendents and business managers.

Michigan ASCD Curriculum Leaders Institute (Boot Camp) Cohort 8 Year 1

Location: MELG Building, Lansing

  • August 1, 2014, Day #1: – Leadership and Change
  • October 6, 2014, Day #2: – Systems for Continuous Improvement
  • November 3, 2014, Day #3: – Ensuring a Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum
  • January 29, 2015, Day #4: – Balanced Assessment
  • March 6, 2015, Day #5: – Quality Instruction

This series is aimed at introducing school administrators to a powerful foundation in curriculum. The program will explore how to:

  • Be engaged in active learning relevant to the knowledge and skills needed to be successful leaders in the individual district setting
  • Gain a wealth of ideas and resources on “getting started” in the new and evolving responsibilities of a curriculum leader
  • Know the ingredients of a “high performing school district” and what it takes to get and then stay there
  • Understand the value of data mining –why we do it, how we do it, and how to use it
  • Understand Michigan standards/expectations (SIF, Common Core, etc.)
  • Be able to successfully work with school building leadership to get more students to learn or to learn better
  • Understand a system-based approach to curriculum leadership utilizing the School Improvement Framework pillars

In addition, each participant will be connected with an experienced mentor for follow-up and support. This series is designed for new and aspiring district curriculum/instruction leaders and Central Office Specialty Endorsement candidates.
