General Motors Corporation Support for Michigan Project Lead The Way

General Motors Corporation, a longtime supporter of education has committed a minimum of $900,000 to support Project Lead The Way programs in Michigan.

Project Lead The Way (PLTW) is the nation's leading non-profit provider of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curricula for middle and high schools throughout the United States. Unlike traditional math and science courses, PLTW’s engineering and biomedical sciences curricula brings together the application of math and science principles in a real world context, helping students develop strong critical thinking and problem solving skills that will prepare them for college and careers.

Michigan high schools may apply for a grant in the amount of $35,000 over three years to offset the costs of implementing the high school PLTW Engineering Career Pathway program. The awards will be distributed over three years: year 1- $10,000, year 2- $15,000, year 3- $10,000.

The successful applicant must have an administrator attend the Second Annual Michigan PLTW/STEM Conference on November 4, 2013 at the Kellogg Center in Lansing to learn more about the PLTW program and the application process. Additional consideration will be given to applicants that send a counselor and/or teacher in addition to the required administrator.

Applications can be found and completed online at http://grants.pltw.org/ after Sunday September 1, 2013. The projected timeline can be found on the next page.
