Culture of Quality Data Symposium

Everyone in the education community has a stake in getting and using reliable information. Decisions made from the classroom to the principal’s office to the state legislature depend on the quality of data. This program will focus on the current data CEPI and the MDE are collecting for high stakes reporting and decisions, and what districts should do to ensure the quality of their data. When you leave this workshop you will have a better understanding of what data is being collected, how data is used and what your district can do to build a culture of quality data that provides timely, accurate, secure and useful data.

Cash Management

This session will develop specifications for the selection of banking and other financial services, teach you how to apply concept of compensating balances, comprehend procedures and legal constraints for cash collection and disbursement, analyze monthly internal transfers and loans, prepare a cash flow analysis, including a fund balance report for the board of education, and identify and deal with fraud and abuse.

Technology for the Business Manager

This session will assist the Business Manager in promoting the development of staff training in technology for the school district. It will focus on developing long-range planning for the school district, while assigning appropriate specifications for technology purchasing. Technology infrastructure contracting for the school district, evaluating the cost benefits of producing information in relation to organizational value, and ensuring that appropriate security is maintained will also be discussed.

Accounting Manual/Chart of Accounts

Grant Writing

This session will cover the basics of grant seeking and grant writing, including information on sources of funds. Participants will learn: practical tips on writing good proposals, including format, submission guidelines and process; grant seeking process and timelines; how to apply research skills to identify suitable grant sources; and valuable web sites, organizations, and resources for identifying available grant dollars.
