This is a four-week course. In this course participants will learn the importance of being an ambassador for your school district on or off the job; the importance of keeping the community up-to-date with the school district’s goals and challenges; techniques and factors that are considered by public relations specialists when marketing a school district to their community; the various forms of communication that can be used to deliver information to the school community; and the appropriate and practical ways to use the different avenues of communication.

Michigan K-16 Coalition Working Hard to Qualify Ballot Initiative by October 14 Top of page

The Michigan K-16 Coalition needs your help in obtaining 500,000 signatures in order to qualify the ballot initiative petition by October 14, 2005. When passed by the Legislature or approved by the voters, this initiative will address:
  • Cost of Living Increase provide annual funding increases equal to inflation for K-12 schools, community colleges and universities.
  • Equity reduce the gap between lowest-spending and highest-spending K-12 districts from $1,300 to $1,000 between 2007 and 2012.
  • Pension Costscap retirement contribution at the current 14.87% of payroll for K-12 districts, community colleges and universities.
  • Declining Enrollmentbase funding for K-12 school districts with declining enrollment based on the student enrollment average of the three prior fiscal years.

MIEM School Administrative Professional Certification Program (SAPC) Wants You! Top of page

Are you a central office administrative assistant, building-level secretary, or employed in a school district office professional support position?

If YES, then you should look into the MIEM School Administrative Professional Certification Program (SAPC). This is a voluntary program, designed by administrative professional such as yourself, and will provide you with information and training to help you become more proficient in what you do as well as career advancement. Complete information on the SAPC program can be found at www.gomiem.org. To apply for the program, simply fill out the
Letter of Application and send to the MIEM office to enroll.

MSBO Certification Program Offers Nine Different Certification Tracks to Members Top of page

Did you know that MSBO offers nine different certification tracks for school business professionals? Current MSBO members may become certified -- each specific to the specialty. The nine tracks are:

MSBO certification is a voluntary system, established in 1998.The MSBO Certification Program was designed by MSBO's Professional Development Committee in conjunction with the Facilities Management, Transportation, and Food Service Committees. In other words, it was created by professionals in their respective fields. School districts that hire business officials believe certification matters. The MSBO Certification Program has been endorsed by the Michigan Association of School Administrators and Michigan Association of School Boards.

To begin the program, fill out the Letter of Commitment. Classes are beginning now through MIEM. Check out the 2005-2006 certification class schedule. Then, register online at the MIEM Website.
