Culture of Quality Data Symposium January 10, 2008, 8:45 am - 4:00 pm Location: LCC West, Lansing Everyone in the education community has a stake in getting and using reliable information. Decisions made from the classroom to the principal’s office to the state legislature depend on the quality of data. This program will focus on the current data CEPI and the MDE are collecting for high stakes reporting and decisions, and what districts should do to ensure the quality of their data. When you leave this workshop you will have a better understanding of what data is being collected, how data is used and what your district can do to build a culture of quality data that provides timely, accurate, secure and useful data. Time Management January 15, 2008, 8:45 am - noon Location: Washtenaw ISD This session will help participants effectively handle the numerous tasks they must perform in a well-run office. Participants will learn: principles of time management; how to deal with multiple projects and deadlines; setting priorities; how to work with multiple bosses; using multiple calendars; how technology can help you manage your time. Aspiring Superintendents January 15, 2008, 8:45 am - 4:00 pm Location: LCC West, Lansing This program will provide the most recent information, professional advice and proven strategies for those aspiring to the Superintendency. A cadre of experienced administrators from across the State will be sharing important information and posing significant questions to help participants decide whether this is a career path to pursue. Cash Management January 22, 2008, 8:45 am - noon Location: LCC West, Lansing This session will develop specifications for the selection of banking and other financial services, teach you how to apply concept of compensating balances, comprehend procedures and legal constraints for cash collection and disbursement, analyze monthly internal transfers and loans, prepare a cash flow analysis, including a fund balance report for the board of education, and identify and deal with fraud and abuse. Technology for the Business Manager January 22, 2008, 12:45 - 4:00 pm Location: LCC West, Lansing This session will assist the Business Manager in promoting the development of staff training in technology for the school district. It will focus on developing long-range planning for the school district, while assigning appropriate specifications for technology purchasing. Technology infrastructure contracting for the school district, evaluating the cost benefits of producing information in relation to organizational value, and ensuring that appropriate security is maintained will also be discussed. WEBINAR: So You Are the Superintendent Secretary January 24, 2008, 1:15 - 4:30 pm Location: At Your Desk So you are the Superintendent Secretary. How do you handle board meetings, public notices, and closed sessions? What information is public knowledge and what information cannot be given out? Do you understandthe FOIA requirements? How can you provide customer service to your board members without being taxed to the limit. Learn this from a legal and practitioner perspective. Accounting Manual/Chart of Accounts January 29, 2008, 8:45 am - noon Location: Washtenaw ISD Participants will learn: what every school employee with payroll/personnel responsibilities should know about the 1022 Accounting Manual, such as how to account for payroll division of state and federal programs and compensated absences and averages and how to monitor the budget. Grant Writing January 29, 2008, 12:45 - 4:00 pm Location: Washtenaw ISD This session will cover the basics of grant seeking and grant writing, including information on sources of funds.
