SAPC Certification Series Begins in October

Beginning in October, 2007, MIEM is teaming up with Washtenaw ISD to offer the 2007-2008 School Administrative Professional Certification Series (SAPC).

SAPC classes are designed for school office professionals, secretaries and administrative assistants. Learn more here. Contact Courtney Byam for more information.

In addition, several required SAPC classes will be offered at the 21st Annual Support Staff Conference for Administrative Professionals scheduled November 15–16 in Grand Rapids.

School Administrative Professional Certification Series (SAPC)

Developed especially for building secretaries, central office staff and support staff professionals.


Business Communications (SAPC-required)
October 23, 2007
Location: Washtenaw ISD, Ann Arbor, 8:45 am – 12 noon
Learn practical techniques for effective job-related communications, including grammar and business writing techniques, how to get your point across clearly and concisely, how to edit and proofreading tips. Learn techniques to deal with the unhappy customer and the importance of body language in face-to-face communications.

Crisis Management/Safety Issues (SAPC-required)
October 23, 2007
Location: Washtenaw ISD, Ann Arbor, 12:45 pm – 4:00 pm
Participants will learn techniques and apply them through role play when identifying and addressing safety/security concerns including: how to respond in an emergency; collaborating with law enforcement, first-responders and local agencies; non-violent intervention strategies/conflict resolution/mediation; dealing with aggressive students; managing stress in a dangerous situation.

TDP, IRS Sec. 125, 403(b), 457 And Workers' Compensation

Understand the processing of workers' compensation claims, the legal and operational aspects of a deferred/defined contribution program and how it affects every payroll office in the state. Know the rules and regulations of 403(b) and cafeteria plans (Sec. 125).

Creative Assessment Strategies Workshop

Learn legal and practical issues relating to how school districts bond, borrow and invest funds, including an overview of cash flow analysis, arbitrage and general borrowing and investing options.

In this session, we'll examine alternatives to "practicing" for the test, review a planning framework for selecting/developing appropriate assessments for various achievement targets and consider classroom assessment practices that promote learning, as well as measure it.
